Omega-3 supplementation can prevent psychosis

Schizophrenia is a psychotic mental illness most commonly characterized by the loss of affect (emotional response), the withdrawal from the social environment, the emergence of delusions (false beliefs) and hallucinations (sensory perceptions without a stimulus) and cognitive disorders. Clinical symptoms of schizophrenia are severe, persistent, chronic nature profresif and till now not yet fully understood about the pathophysiology of schizophrenia.

The prevalence of schizophrenia recorded as many as 1% of the population worldwide. Schizophrenic patients experienced 10% more risk of suicide compared with normal people. Also increased mortality due to comorbid diseases caused by unhealthy lifestyle, side effects from medications and decrease health care.

Various studies suggest a correlation between the occurrence of the symptoms of schizophrenia with impaired membrane structure and metabolism of nerve cells. Besides that schizophrenia patients showed that essential fatty acid levels low is really important for normal metabolism of nerve cells. A meta-analysis of the 2006 Cochrane review also concluded that the addition of unsaturated fatty acid supplementation with antipsychotic in schizophrenia patients showed positive results when compared with placebo.

The low unsaturated fatty acids can cause oxidative stress that eventually damage the nerve cells. Supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids may improve membrane fluidity and receptor and increased levels in the temporal lobe glutathione so as to prevent nerve cell damage caused by oxidative stress.

A recent study published in the journal Archives of General Psychiatry months researching in February 2010 regarding the grant of omega 3 fatty acids for prevention of the occurrence of schizophrenia in vulnerable patients with schizophrenia occurs. This study design is randomized, double blind, placebo control by involving as many as 81 research samples. Here is a sample study of patients age range 13-25 years who meet the criteria of risk for psychosis. Interventions is the provision of unsaturated fatty acid capsules omega 3 as many as four capsules daily containing a total of 1.2 grams / day administered over 12 weeks. As a control given placebo capsules four times daily for 12 weeks. During the 12 weeks the patient did not receive antipsychotic medications or mood stabilizers. Outcome was assessed rating score of PANSS (Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale) every week for four weeks, weeks into the eight, week 12, month 6 and month 12.

The results obtained are in the final months of the study (month 12) were two of 41 patients (4.9%) in the omega-3 group of psychotic symptoms compared with 11 of 40 patients (27.5%) in the placebo group (p = 0.007). Omega 3 also significantly reduce the positive symptoms (p = 0.01), negative symptoms (p = 0.02) and general symptoms (p = 0.01) and improve cognitive function (p = 0.002) when compared with placebo. Side effects found no significant difference between the two groups.

Conclusions of the research was not saturated fatty acid supplementation of omega 3 can reduce the risk of progression of psychosis and can be used also for the prevention of psychosis in vulnerable patients the occurrence of psychosis.

Conclusion
1. Schizophrenia with a prevalence of 1% in the whole world, is a psychotic mental illness characterized by loss of affect, loss of social interaction, delusions, hallucinations and cognitive impairment.
2. Meta-analysis of studies showing positive effects of unsaturated fatty acid supplementation in patients with schizophrenia.
3. Recent research shows the positive effects of omega-3 supplementation as prevention of schizophrenia in vulnerable patients with schizophrenia occurs.

Prohibition For Asthma Patients

Eating Burger worsen asthma

Burger and fries are not just bad for waistlines, but also aggravate asthma. Besides increasing the risk of inflammation in the respiratory tract, high-fat foods also makes the body does not respond to therapy to control asthma.

The study conducted a team of scientists from the University of Newcastle, it adds to evidence that environmental factors, such as diet, affects the development of asthma. In fact, in the last two decades that eating high-fat fast food many people increasingly popular.

Although the study results still need further proof, but experts recommend to reduce the intake of high fat foods as a way to control asthma.

"If there are further studies confirm these studies, the dietary adjustments can be an important strategy for controlling asthma," said Lisa Wood, the lead researcher from the University of Newcastle. Research results will be presented at the meeting of the American Thoracic Society's International Conference this week.

Asthma is a chronic condition that occurs when the main bronchi lungs (bronchi) become inflamed. So far more associated with allergic asthma, there has been no research that specifically look at the impact of high-fat diet in patients with asthma.

In his study, Wood and his team studied 40 patients with asthma were divided into two groups. First is the eaten foods high in fat, such as burgers, and other groups were fed yogurt. High-fat meal containing 1000 calories, 52 percent come from fat. While low-fat foods is only 200 calories, 13 percent from fat.

Results of analysis of saliva samples showed, there was improvement of immune cells called neutrophils  in the airways in the group who ate a burger. Neutrophils is the trigger inflammation. Not only that, this group is also working on controlling asthma medication in the lungs also become slower.

Environmental Health Program, For Best Health Quality

One important requirement of environmental health programs is the problem of clean water, garbage and sanitation, namely the need for clean water, waste produced daily by the community and the direct disposal of waste water which flowed in the river channel. This causes the sedimentation of river channels, river channels clogged with garbage. In the rainy season floods always occur and cause disease.

Some diseases caused by poor sanitation and waste disposal and waste water which is less well are:
1. Diarrhea
2. Scarlet fever
3. Dysentery
4. Hepatitis A
5. Cholera
6. Typhus
7. Wormy
8. Malaria
Why defecate should be healthy? why do we have latrines need to be healthy? This may have never thought by most our rural communities. from the above explanation can already known diseases that arise due to defecate and the latrine is not healthy.
Latrines are placeholders where human waste is intentionally made to secure it, with the aim of:
1. Preventing the spread of direct materials that are harmful to humans due to human sewage.
2. Preventing the spread of disease vector for the user and the surrounding environment

Flies that landed on the trash on the water and wastewater or sewer rat who entered into the sewage can carry a number of disease-causing germs. When a fly or a mouse is touching food or drinks will most likely people to swallow food and drink will suffer as one of the diseases mentioned above. Similarly, small children playing or adults who work near or having direct contact with wastewater and solid waste can be exposed to diseases such as mentioned above, especially if it is not clear limbs first.
1. Waste water can be divided into two parts, namely:
2. Water former derived from the tub or floor sink or appliances, floor laundry and bathroom
3. Sludge originating from the toilet or water closet (WC)

Septic tank or a centralized waste water treatment unit is needed in order to treat wastewater before discharge to water body. In addition to preventing pollution, including disease-causing organisms, waste water treatment intended to reduce the burden of pollution or contaminants so that describe the quality standard requirements when discarded to receiving water bodies.
Rubbish and waste water containing various elements such as dissolved gases, dissolved solid substances, oils and fats as well as microorganisms. Microorganisms contained in waste and waste water can form decomposing organisms and cause disease. Handling waste and waste water which is less good, such as:
1. Waste water flowing into the open channel
2. Walls and bottom lines damaged by poorly maintained
Sewage and garbage into the canal which causes blockage and the emergence of a pool will accelerate the proliferation of microorganisms or disease-causing germs, insects and mammals disseminator of diseases such as flies and rats.
A body of water such as rivers or the sea has a capacity of a particular decomposition. When the waste water directly into the body is inserted just done a water without processing, then one day it may cause environmental pollution. Contamination takes place when the capacity of wastes contained in the body of water that exceeded the water body can no longer make the processing or decompose naturally. Such condition is called septic or contaminated condition characterized by:
1. Foul odor
2. Water color is dark and dense
3. Number of fish and other aquatic organisms are dead or float.

Clean and Healthy Living Patterns
Clean and healthy life can be defined as living in an environment of cleanliness and hygiene standards as well as running the pattern / behavior of clean and healthy living. A healthy environment can give effect to the quality of healthcare. Person's health would be good if the environment around him is also good. Vice versa, a person's health will become worse if the environment around him is less good. In the application of clean and healthy living can be started by creating a healthy environment. A healthy environment can be characterized by residence (home) and a healthy environment around the house.

Environmental Health Perspectives

To assess the environmental health situation and the measures taken to create a healthy environment has been selected four indicators, namely the percentage of families who have access to clean water, a healthy percentage of home, family ownership to basic sanitation, Public Places and Food Processing. Because by definition according to wikipedia Environmental health is a part of public health concerned with all aspects of the natural and built environment that can affect human health.

Several attempts to minimize the risk of decline in environmental quality should be implemented by various agencies, such as the construction of basic sanitation, monitoring and environment management, measurement and control of environmental quality.

Construction of basic sanitation for communities that are directly related to health problems including the provision of clean water, latrines healthy, healthy housing, drinking water quality monitoring, monitoring of hospital sanitation, sanitation supervision and monitoring of public places (hotels, Terminal), food processing locations , where the processing of pesticides and so forth.

In monitoring the implementation of environmental health programs can be seen some indicators of environmental health as follows:

1. Clean Water Use

Provision of clean water is absolutely necessary for the achievement of the purpose of healthy living.

2. Healthy home

For most people, home is a gathering place for all members of the family and spent most of his time, so that the health condition of the housing may act as a medium of disease transmission among family members or neighbors.

From existing data, the program of socialization of the community to build healthy homes need to continue to do so to prevent the development of disease vectors can be reduced, so too the causes of other diseases around the house.

3. Families With Basic Sanitation Facilities Ownership.

Families with ownership of basic sanitation facilities including water supply, latrine ownership of the family, trash and waste water management, this whole family is very important in improving environmental health.

4. Public Places and Food Processing

Food, including beverages, is a basic requirement and a major source for human life, but food that is not managed well it will be a very effective medium of disease transmission in the digestive tract (Food Borne Diseases). The occurrence of acute poisoning and the spread of disease which often leads to death many sourced from food derived from food processing, especially the catering service, restaurant and snack foods that their management does not meet health requirements or environmental sanitation.

So that efforts supervision of food sanitation is very important to maintain the health of consumers or society
